Course outline

Learn to plan, teach and assess children, and integrate ICT in your teaching. Develop curriculum knowledge in English, maths, science, technology, arts, health and physical education, history, and geography. Develop valuable skills and experiences through Employability Backpack, engaging with community projects, working with children, families and communities.

In this program you will complete 80 days’ supervised teaching in local schools (and rural and remote settings if desired). You’ll complete a subject focus in science or English/literacy and work with children and families in community projects. You’ll also have the opportunity to attend professional development seminars to enhance your knowledge. Other requirements

Students must complete 80 days of supervised professional experience, completed as full-time blocks.

Students must have a valid Suitability Card (Blue Card) before commencing professional experience; refer to institution. Students undertaking an Initial Teacher Education (ITE) program are required to complete the Literacy and Numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) in order to graduate. The Inherent Academic Requirements of a program are those fundamental skills, capabilities and knowledge that students must be able to demonstrate in order to achieve the essential learning outcomes of the program, while maintaining the academic integrity of that program. Prerequisites

English, Literature, English and Literature Extension or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 and 4, C); General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics (Units 3 and 4, C); Any General subject from the Sciences Learning Area (Units 3 and 4, C); Completion of Year 12 or attained age 17 years; Teaching Personal Statement

Additional entry requirements

For information regarding non-academic entry requirements, refer to QTAC website. Applicants from a non-English speaking background must attain an Academic IELTS score of at least 7.5 with a minimum of 8.0 in speaking and listening and 7.0 in all other subtests, obtained within two years prior to the commencement of the program.
